The 71st evacuation hospital was a part of a joint Airbase. The main purpose of the hospital was to stabilize the severe patients so that they could be shipped up to North to Japan. Being a female at these hospitals often meant that the nurses had to deal with flirtatious men that were looking for a reaction.
While on duty, the work for these women could be described as overwhelming. At more than one point, there was a shortage of nurses at the hospital. Because the number of casualties, these nurses worked extensive hours often, but that never stopped the woman from lacing on their black boots and getting to work. The amount of work did seem to level off as Lynne says,
“There are promises from headquarter that the 90th replacement, that more will be on their way….”
